The San Diego Beacon Community
The San Diego Beacon Community is a partnership of health care providers, clinics, hospitals, emergency medical services and public health organizations. The Community’s goal is to improve the quality of health care delivered for all San Diegans using health information technology. The Community’s largest investment is a health information exchange, an electronic network that allows doctors to see patient health information from participating sites.

The San Diego Beacon Health Information Exchange will improve the quality of health care delivery for all San Diegans by placing important patient medical information at doctors' fingertips.
The San Diego Beacon Health Information Exchange will allow healthcare providers, paramedics, clinics and hospitals to access electronic patient information from all participating sites. With access to a patient’s health information record from multiple locations, doctors should make better informed decisions to provide better care. Access to up-to-date medical information may reduce the risk for errors, unnecessary tests, and inappropriate treatment.

The San Diego Beacon Health Information Exchange will keep your personal health information secure.
Your electronic health information will be accessible only to doctors and health care personnel who are providing you with medical care. Your electronic health information will only be stored within your providers’ databases. When requested by a participating provider, your health information will only be shown if 1) you have already provided consent to share your information or 2) your provider believes you are having a life-threatening emergency. Your electronic health information will be transmitted in a safe and secure manner. No patient medical information will be stored in the San Diego Beacon Health Information Exchange.
